Site Visit Fee
$150 for the first 30 minutes on site (covers my prep and travel to/from your Lamorinda address)
Hourly Rate
$120/hr for each hour after the first 30 minutes
My rate schedule includes the cost of tools, but NOT additional supplies that might be needed to complete your job. Supplies can be purchased by customers in advance of the work, or I can purchase them and pass the cost along to you without markup, but my hourly rate will apply to the hardware store visit.
The way this works (for now) is that I can only do projects that are under $500 without becoming a general contractor. This means I won’t take on work that I think will take more than 2.5 hours. On an estimated 1.5 – 2.5 hour job, this gives me a buffer of 1 additional hour to bill if I underestimate the time needed, assuming I don’t need to buy any supplies.
At the end of the zoom call, I’ll definitely tell you if it’s something I think I can handle within those limitations. If the project(s) fit within those parameters I’ll also tell you which total I think they’ll fall into:
- 30 minutes or less: $150
- 30 – 90 minutes: $270
- 90 – 150 minutes: $390
If the project creeps over 150 minutes (2.5 hours), I’ll bill up to $499 to wrap up the work.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that there are often unforeseen variables that pop up during certain types of projects. My objective here is to be fair and upfront about how I operate. I’m a “get to work and make clients happy” type of guy, but I’m also dedicating my time to others (instead of working on my own list) when I take on these jobs. So at the end of the day, it’s the time I spend doing the job that determines the final cost.
